Care for What You Wear
At Acne Studios, every piece is made with carefully chosen and often custom-developed materials, designed to be worn and loved for years. Looking after your garments not only keeps them looking their best — it’s also a simple, meaningful way to make fashion more sustainable. Below you’ll find general guidance for caring for your Acne Studios pieces by material.
Always check first: The care label sewn into each garment is your primary guide. Where the instructions below differ from the label, follow the label.
Denim
Our denim is meant to age beautifully with you. To preserve the colour and fit:
- Wash as little as possible — airing your jeans between wears is often enough.
- When you do wash, turn them inside out and use a cold, gentle cycle.
- Avoid harsh detergents and skip the tumble dryer; hang to dry instead.
- Expect raw and selvedge denim to fade and develop character over time — that’s part of its charm.
Knitwear
Knits need gentle handling to keep their shape and softness:
- Hand wash or use a wool/delicate cycle at low temperature.
- Use a mild detergent suitable for wool and delicate fibres.
- Never wring or hang wet knitwear — reshape it and dry flat, away from direct heat and sunlight.
- Fold rather than hang to store, and use cedar or moth protection for wool.
Cotton, Shirts & T-Shirts
- Wash at low to moderate temperatures with similar colours.
- Wash printed or embellished items inside out to protect the surface.
- Iron on the appropriate setting while slightly damp for the best finish.
- Reshape while damp to maintain the garment’s structure.
Tailoring & Delicate Fabrics
- Structured tailoring and delicate materials such as silk, wool and viscose are usually best cared for by a professional dry cleaner.
- Steam rather than iron where possible to refresh and remove creases gently.
- Store tailoring on shaped hangers to preserve the cut.
Leather & Suede
- Keep leather and suede away from prolonged moisture, heat and direct sunlight.
- Wipe leather clean with a soft, dry cloth; treat suede with a dedicated suede brush.
- Use a suitable protector spray to guard against water and stains.
- Allow wet leather to dry naturally at room temperature, never near direct heat.
- Store in a dust bag, away from damp, when not in use.
Footwear
- Alternate your shoes to let them rest and air between wears.
- Clean according to the material — leather, suede or fabric — using the right products.
- Use shoe trees to help footwear keep its shape.
- Protect against water and dirt with an appropriate protector spray.
Accessories & Bags
- Store bags stuffed and upright in their dust bag to keep their shape.
- Avoid overfilling, and keep away from moisture and direct sunlight.
- Clean gently with products suited to the material.
- Handle hardware and metal details carefully to avoid scratches.
A Note on Sustainability
Caring well for your garments extends their life and reduces waste. Washing less, washing cold, air-drying and repairing rather than replacing all help your pieces — and the planet — last longer.
